An interactive, hands-on workshop for mental health professionals and educators that highlights a therapeutic and artistic intervention that facilitates developmentally-appropriate, child-centered communication with children and adolescents that have experienced trauma. With the use of fun, engaging visual supports, providers are introduced to interactive tools and strategies that help children illustrate their individualized progress throughout their healing journeys. With an overview of the A.C.E. (Adverse Childhood Experience) Study, and an inspiring case study that highlights the growing awareness of Pediatric Medical Traumatic Stress and Post-Traumatic Growth, participants will learn techniques that help children set individualized goals, track progress, and cope with triggers and set-backs. This workshop, tools and strategies will be a valuable addition to Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Presenter, Christina Connors, OTR/L is an Occupational Therapist with 18 years of clinical experience working with children, adolescents and adults with physical, cognitive and pyschosocial conditions in healthcare, home care and educational settings. Ms. Connors was originator of Get Well Maps and Educational Maps, tools and programming that she created in partnership with artist John Donato, following her son’s traumatic medical experience and recovery.
